Carnival Overture

April 1952. Musical Courier

[...]

Combined with these concertos were the Bach No.4 for Violin, Flute and String Orchestra; a first performance at these concerts of the C Major Mozart Symphony (K.338), given devoted readings by Mr. Kubelik and the orchestra; and two smaller works - Rabaud's beautiful symphonic poem La Procession Nocturne, heard earlier in the season, and a first performance here of Oskar Morawetz' Carnival Overture. The latter gay, attractive piece deserved the hearty applause it received, for it has the elements which make for enjoyable listening. An early work of the young Czech composer, the Overture bears the lively character its title suggests without being trite. His gift for imparting successfully what he has to say stimulates interest in hearing other works of this talented composer, who was present to receive a warm welcome.
