Clarinetist Julian Milkis commissioned the clarinet concerto. After
giving its première with the CJRT orchestra, he presented the work in Leningrad
with conductor Arkadi Steinlucht and the Leningrad Chamber Orchestra in
1990 and 1991. The following year, Mr. Milkis performed the work with Mario
Bernardi and the Vancouver CBC Orchestra.
