Five Biblical Songs
By the Rivers of Babylon - God our Lord We Sing Happy Songs to Thee - Hear Me God When I Pray to Thee - Come and Praise Our Lord - God the Lord is My Shepherd

The Five Biblical Songs is dedicated to the memory of Terrance (Terry) Stanley Fox (July 28, 1958 - June 28, 1981).

At the age of eighteen, while attending university in Burnaby, B.C., Canada, Terry Fox lost his right leg to cancer. While undergoing chemotherapy he became aware of the many cancer victims who had lost all hope. He decided he would run across Canada to raise money for cancer research, it became his dream. He believed anything was possible and "dreams are made if people try".

On April 12, 1980, after extensive training, he set out from St. John's, Newfoundland, and on September 1, 1980, after having run 3,339 miles through rain, sleet and snow, he was once again stricken with cancer and forced to stop his run.

People all over the world responded to Terry's plea and before his death he had raised over $24,000,000 for cancer research, received by the Canadian Cancer Society.

During the last year of Terry's life he was in and out of hospital but for the most part he was at home with his family. He wanted to be at home where he felt protected and loved. His mother became his closest confidante and spokesperson. When he became unable to make decisions she made them for him, always considering what Terry himself would have done.

Terry received many tributes including the Companion of the Order of Canada, the highest honour bestowed in Canada. It was awarded because of his outstanding contribution to the cause of cancer research.

Each year in September since Terry's death an annual Terry Fox Run is held throughout Canada and other parts of the world to raise money for cancer research. This Run will continue until Terry's dream is realized, that a cure is found for cancer.

Terry was a compassionate human being who expressed his love for God by his example. "What greater love hath he than to lay down his life for his friends."
