Oskar Morawetz's Five Poetic Sketches is a solidly-crafted work - idiomatic and taxing at the same time. Sonority is a priority, and Hewitt played through with both depth and variegated timbres. The portion titled Prayer in Distress was especially fine, as Hewitt seemed able to get right to the heart of the composer's intention.
