Special radio programs to mark King's death
To mark the 10th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. a
20-minute musical composition by Czechoslovakia-born U of T professor
Oskar Morawetz will be heard on 20 radio stations in the USA and Canada on April
3 and 4.
The piece for solo cello winds and percussion was inspired by the life and
death of the late civil rights leader.
Next Monday and Tuesday 20 million listeners will hear the work of Morawetz
who fled Czechoslovakia ahead of the Nazi invasion in 1938 and came to Canada
two years later.
Oskar Morawetz' "Memorial to Martin Luther King" comes over on CBC-FM at noon
on April 3; on CBC-AM at 10.20p.m. same day; on April 4, CJRT will broadcast the
composition at 7 p.m.
