McFerrin and Ma: concerts to remember
[...]
Zander and the Boston Philharmonic opened the concert with Copland's Fanfare
for the Common Man, nobly intoned, and Ma played both the Memorial to
Martin Luther King by the Czech-Canadian composer Oskar Morawetz and the
Dvorak Concerto. Morawetz's piece, vigorously scored for winds, brass and
percussion, is dramatic, deeply sincere, and affecting. In the hands of Zander
and Ma it made a powerful impact and won the composer a standing ovation.
