The meat of the first half was contained in Oskar Morawetz Sonata for Brass Quintet.

Here the rhythmic drive of the first and third movements held real drama and rhetoric and were splendidly achieved while the Andante had a reflective chromatic ambience more profound than all the other works of the evening.
