Oskar Morawetz, Canadian from Bohemia, again won first award for his piano sonata finished last August. Last year Oskar won the same award for a string quartet of unmistakable quality. Morawetz is too young to
have caught the craze for uglification, evident in so much modern music. He still believes in the beauty of sensuous magic. To be effectively "modern," composers don't need to make kindling-wood of all the old styles. Progress in music
