Oskar Morawetz Wins Music Prize
Oskar Morawetz, 17 Dewbourne Ave., is one of five winners of $100 awards for serious musical compositions awarded by the
Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada, it was announced last
night.
Sir Ernest MacMillan, conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, is chairman of the board of judges. For the first time in the history of the awards a woman won a major prize. Winners were Jean Coulthard Adams of Vancouver for her "Etudes for Piano"; Minuetta Borek of Calgary for "New York Suite"; Alexander Brott of Montreal for "War and Peace"; F. L. Harrison of
Kingston for "Night Hymns on Lake Nipigon," and Mr.
Morawetz for "Sonata Tragica."
