Tarantelle is a quick gay composition in triplets, usually in 6/8 time. The two
main themes (the first in a minor key and the second in a major) are both very
rhythmic in character and build the first part of the composition. The second
part is more melodic in character, although the accompaniment continually brings
back the main features of the first part.
The third part repeats partly the first section of the work but in a much
more complicated way, until it reaches a very joyful climax where practically
the whole keyboard seems to be in action.
The music becomes gradually softer and softer until it is interrupted by a
sudden reoccurence of the first theme which brings the whole composition to an
end in complete pianissimo.
