At another concert on the following night, a startling choral piece whose text is derived from The Diary of Anne Frank titled Who Has Allowed Us to Suffer? acquainted me with the gifts of Oskar Morawetz, a composer born in Czechoslovakia but long a resident of Toronto. Expressively set forth, it was superbly performed by the Elmer Iseler Singers, a chamber group whose director also heads the celebrated Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
