Award for Morawetz Dispels Wife's Gloom

When Ruth Morawetz, wife of Toronto composer Oskar Morawetz, arrived at Malton Airport from Cleveland last night she was downcast. She had been in Cleveland with Toronto baritone Alexander Gray in the semi-finals of the Metropolitan Opera auditions. Twelve had competed and one was chosen, but not Mr. Gray.

"I'm afraid we lost," said Mrs. Morawetz as she was greeted by her husband, "but what makes you so happy?"

"You and I will be going to Europe this summer to all the festivals on a Canada Council fellowship," he exclaimed.

Mr. Morawetz, normally a shy, reticent person, forgot there was a crowd on the runway and embraced his wife. "Is'nt it odd," she remarked, "I flew out from a defeat in Cleveland back to a victory in Toronto."
