Good Show, York Symphony!
Editor, the Gazette and Daily:
Enough good things cannot be said about the treatment accorded the world
premiere of Concerto for Brass Quintet and Orchestra (why isn't that considered
a concerto grosso?) by Oskar Morawetz.
It was a comparatively difficult work demanding considerable understanding of
the necessity of maintaining cohesive tension throughout the fascinating changes
of thematic material.
The York Symphony, on the basis of this performance, enhances its enviable
reputation of youthful awareness and vitality.
York should feel honored Mr. Morawetz premiered his important work here, but he
should feel no less honored at the masterful performance it received.
