Music Notables Attend

Pianist, Composer Wed in Toronto Ceremony

TORONTO, June 8 - A wedding of wide interest in music circles took place in Bloor Street United Church Saturday afternoon, when pianist Ruth Spafford Shipman exchanged vows with composer Dr. Oskar Morawetz.

A music graduate of the University of Western Ontario, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Clarence Shipman, London. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morawetz, Toronto, are parents of the groom, who is professor of music at the University of Toronto.

The Rev. Dr. Ernest Howse officiated, assisted by Dr. Alexander MacMillan. Sir Ernest MacMillan presided at the organ and Dr. Ernesto Vinci was soloist.

The bride chose a floor-length gown of chantilly lace and chiffon styled with a shirred scoop neckline and a skirt featuring two inserts of chantilly lace with swirls of godet flounces. Pearls bordered her fingertip veil and decorated the crown headdress, and she carried a bouquet of gardenias, lily of the valley and stephanotis.

Mrs. William Shipman was matron of honor and brides-maids were Miss Shirley Orpen and Miss Barbara Bowman. They were gowned alike in ballerina-length white embossed nylon over romance blue taffeta, and carried semi-cascades of white shasta 'mums. The flower girl, Stephanie Shipman, was dressed in yellow nylon and carried a yellow nosegay.

Dr. Herbert Morawetz was best man and ushers were John Morawetz, Dr. William Shipman, Robert Binnie and Jan Rubes.

Following a wedding trip to New England and then to Banff for July and August, the couple will reside in Toronto. For traveling the bride donned a pure silk sheath and matching three-quarter length coat in dark green and navy, with beige accessories.
