Distinguished Musicians Attend Toronto Wedding

A wedding of wide interest took place in Toronto recently when Miss Ruth Shipman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shipman of London, Ont., married Dr. Oskar Morawetz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morawetz, Toronto.

The ceremony was performed at Bloor Street United Church by Dr. Ernest Howse, assisted by Dr. Alexander MacMillan, father of Sir Ernest MacMillan. Sir Ernest was at the organ and Dr. Ernesto Vinci was the soloist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Chantilly lace and chiffon gown with a bodice of lace and shirred scoop neckline of chiffon. Her finger-tip veil bordered with pearls was held to a crown covered with pearls and sequins. She carried gardenias, lily of the valley and stephanotis.

Her attendants were Shirley Orpen, Barbara Bowman and Mary-Kaye Simpkinson as bridesmaids, and Stephanie Shipman as flower-girl. Dr. Herbert Morawetz was groomsman and the ushers were John Morawetz, Robert Binnie, Jan Rubes and Victor di Bello.

The bride is a graduate of the Toronto Conservatory of Music and has held many engagements as a pianist. Dr. Morawetz is a member of the staff of the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. One of his compositions was recently given its premiere performance in Canada by the Ottawa Philharmonic.
