Czech Music Concert Wins Loud Acclaim

Three Czechoslovakian artists, Miss Sonia Pecmanova, violinist; Oscar Morawetz, pianist, and Walter Schmolka, baritone, delighted an audience last night in the Fort William Vocational School auditorium with their renditions of classical music and songs. The artists are appearing in principal cities across Canada under the sponsorship of the Czechoslovak National Alliance for the benefit of the Czechoslovak Red Cross at London, Eng. Last night's program was presented under the auspices of the Fort William branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society.

Their adeptness in the melodic blending of the violin and piano was cleverly shown by Miss Pecmanova and Mr. Morawetz in the offering of A. Dvorak's Sonatina, Opus 100. Their four-part playing of B. Smetana's Z Domoviny was loudly applauded.

The baritone qualities of Mr. Schmolka's articulation was clearly defined in his rendition of By the Water of Babylon and Sing Ye a Joyful Song. The music modulation was supplied by Mr. Morawetz on the Heintzman. His playing on the pianoforte of Sonata Eroica, Opus 24, by V. Novak, was warmly received.
